Unisa and Microsoft made a deal whereby all student accounts will be hosted on their Exchange Labs site. Since you are likely one of those GTD-type people who cannot stand the joy of checking yet another email account, there is an option to forward all mails to another email address. Fantastic — if it was enabled! I for one cannot find this option anywhere. Another way of getting out of this hellhole is to suck your @mylife.absa.ac.za mail from another service, such as GMail. To do this, use the following settings:
E-mail address: Enter 4234...@mylife.unisa.ac.za, use your own student number!
Enter the email password for the account
Incoming server: pop-eu.exchangelabs.com
Encryption: SSL
Port: 995
And you’re done. While I like their idea of using a single communications platform (cheap etc), I don’t like the idea of being forced into a solution that doesn’t fit my email routine. Hopefully this will help others who feels the same way.

You can find the forward mail option if you load the site using IE and not Firefox…I know, it sucks. Took me a while to figure that one out. The site looks completely different when opened with IE. Typical MS.

Yeah! I’ve been having exactly the same problem with this new MyLife account. I actually sent some feedback to Microsoft to tell them how fricking frustrating their service is. (seriously, how can they leave out such important options – in this day and age of internet and email… -_-) I also couldn’t find their POP settings anywhere… Thanks for helping me sort that out.
I’ve been using Google Chrome as a browser, and if that is what the problem is… then that’s real low MS. Real low. :/

Hi.
I’ve just been made aware that some settings in mylife mail account are ‘invisible’ to any other web browser except IExplorer. Though i dislike iexplorer i have to say the inbox layout appears ‘nice’ with iexplorer.
The other issue is that you may not always be guaranteed access to your Outlook Web inbox through IExplorer. I could not access my inbox on Sunday 17th January 2010. I know my logon details are correct as I had no issues with Safari and Firefox browsers.
My POP3/IMAP settings work good. But am struggling with setting up access through Microsoft Exchange via Outlook.
Could it be that the MS Exchange periodicaly rejects access by Microsoft’s own products,Internet Explorer and Outlook?

It looks like Unisa’s completely screwed up. Trying to access mylife takes you to Windows Live with absolutely no instructions on how to go further. I’m very computer literate and I still cannot see how one is supposed to access Unisa emails and hence finish mylife registration.
This one’s a Fail.
