6-week recap:
Teachings about priorities, the Cross life, self-denial. We saw the Cross as the Power and Wisdom of God. We learnt to apply the power of the cross in our lives as being dying to self and being restored to the throne snd the sons of glory and only theounght the crosscan we egt bto bthe throne. Thed cross is the powwer that brings you to the throne. We nust lose our li ves and found it again. We are made little lower than Elohim, made tot rule, brougghht back tokingship back through Christ.
There’s an error where slaves are riding horses while the rulers must walk (Eccl). We have the wisdom of God, and must know nothing else but Christ crucified. Not with wise or persuasive words [not rest on man's wisdom], but with the demonstration of … So that our faith will not rest on man’s wisdom. The power of the wisdom of God – the Cross – will lift us up to rule in heavenly places. We are healed by beholding the slain lamb on the cross and receive healing through the Cross.
Why is Christianity in such a state? Because Satan has an open door in our lives but if we die to self on the cross those doors become non-existent.
We die, are buried and raised with Christ, col 3:1
Since we are raised with Christ – what now? We are enthroned with Christ in heavenly/spiritual/on high places. Now we must set our hearts on things above. If we are seated with Christ in heavenly places, why don’t we experience the throne-life? We must set our hearts on things above, the kingdom of God must be the affection of our heart.
So, set your hearts on things above where Christ and you are seated (and ruling).
This week:
The word ‘rudiments’ was placed on Johan’s mind. Col 2:1: Paul’s hope for the Colossians are that they may know Christ (ditto for the Ephesians), in whom all the treasures of divine wisdom and spiritual knowledge are. How do we sway to humanistic approaches to aid us in our spiritual growth? See examples of ppl preaching for 1hr or more without using the Bible, the Cross or the blood. v4 I say this so no one may deceive you by fine-sounding arguments. See their steadfastness in v5. God told Johan that the church as never intended to drop standards in order to accomodate 1/2 baked Christians. (remember joke about guy seeing woman smoke in church? He was so offended he nearly dropped his beer!) v6 regulate your lives (get priorities right), walk in union with him and in conformity to Him. We must become a spiritual people. v7 have the roots [of your being] firmly and deeply planted in him, being continually built up in Him…v8
We don’t live spiritually, so we don’t experience the spiritual. v8 we must move past and don’t be caught up in the rudiments, which is
the basic principles,
elementary teachings,
the first principles,
the world’s ideas & rules,
worldly principles,
philosophy,
so-called intellectualism,
Vain deceit,
Idle fancies and plain nonsense,
Following human tradition,
Because the power doesn’t lie in this. It lies in dying to self on the Cross.
